Advantages:1. Balance in the dream because, where there are dire wolves, certainly would exist the ancient hunters of the savannah. Like most ecosystems they need the balance of their numerous hunters. While I know wolves and cats did not likely coexist in the prehistoric ages, they do now, in the form of wolves and mountain lions, each playing their societal role to balance out the herds and keep certain things hunted from overpopulating. Smilodons play this role in targeting the larger animals in the world; mastadons, elephants, rhinocerous, and numerous other large herbivores. 2. Not many dreams offer this species anymore, where there are many out there that enjoy rping this species. Equaling more members to the dream! Disadvantages:1. Powerplaying 2. Groups of Smildon's can potentually be dangerous. (Sure, they can be, but take into consideration the strong packs around.

Personally I don't think powerplaying is likely to be an issue at all. The dream's height limit is 4ft before an app is needed, and realistically speaking sabertooth cats would never have reached more than that, in fact I think you'll find even the smilodon populator (largest subspecies) was maybe 3'9" most of the time.
Now if you consider that against the number of 4, 5, and even 6 ft wolves in this dream... then yeah, I really don't see how that's likely to be a potential problem.
In real life, perhaps, because of the difference in the way they were built, then the saber's specialisation toward taking down animals bigger than itself would ensure a victory in a one on one... but this is Furcadia. I've seen wolves kill sabers on Furc before, even though it would (most likely) never have happened in reality.
So you have to consider that, as well... will this dream be following as much of real life as it can, or will you be going with the Furcadia standard? The latter will mean there's even less chance of sabers actually being a problem.
I'd also like to point out that cats tend to move with their heads roughly level to their spines, so shoulder measurements are actually pretty accurate for their overall height. That means 3'9" at the shoulder, contrary to what I've seen pointed out on this forum, is 3'9" total. There is really not another 12 inches to the top of their head. Lions are the only cats who tend to stand (not move, just stand) with their heads lifted, as far as I've seen, and they're still measured to the shoulder.
tl,dr; As Kotoro said, and as it should be for any other character or species, as long as the rules are followed then there should be no problem, aye?
